Where has the summer gone? This will likely be my last blog entry on the Aerobics First page, but it was bothering me that the most recent update was on April 28th. I will briefly recap the summer and my “racing” season. By the time June came around, I had actually managed to get myself into decent shape. One workout in particular got me really excited; Ten 400s at 1500m effort with an average of just over 60 seconds. I did the workout with Geoff Harris and he dragged me along the whole way and it felt great. The problem was, the races just weren’t happening. I ran two 800s and a 1500 and won them all, which I think was the issue. It’s so much easier to run a fast time if you’re in a race. I found myself getting complacent and almost bored chasing times and having to hit certain splits. I hate those controlled races where there’s no adrenaline and nothing on the line. I ran 1:56 twice and 4:02. In both distances I had decent races going (1:22 through 600m, and 3:08 through 1200m) until it came time to kick and there was just nothing there. It was strange. Without someone to race, there was just no fire.
